The quinta is tastefully decorated, designed and equipped to a very high standard. Located as it does just southeast of Caldas da Rainha in the quiet village of Matoeria, Quinta da Saude is within a short drive of all the amenities. The nearest beach is less than 15 minutes away at Foz do Arelho; whilst the nearest surfing beaches are at Baleal or Nazare just 25 minutes away. There are several supermarkets, banks, loads of restaurants and plenty of shops just minutes away in Caldas da Rainha. There are also some fine restaurants serving international cuisine in the heart of historic Obidos.
The main house is set in its own exclusive grounds within a walled enclosure that is typical of 18th century country houses or quintas (Wine producing country houses) in Portugal. It is on a slight elevation overlooking some beautiful views of the vineyards and Olive groves that stretch as far as the eye can see. The building was completely restored in sympathy with its period and retains many of the old features such as the old family chapel that is still in use today and where guests may enter for quiet contemplation.
The approach to the house is via a gravel pathway that approaches a little parking spot for vehicles. At the front is the original arched entrance that opens out into the well-groomed garden at the heart of which is good sized swimming pool and traditional BBQ terrace. There are magnificent views from the pool across the countryside. Adjacent to the BBQ is a self-contained recreation unit with pool table, library and some amazing antique features.
Across the lawns and garden lies the main house with wrap round terrace perched on the large retaining wall that looks out onto the fields and apple orchards. The reception lounge itself, is large and airy with a really beautiful décor with original antique period furniture right through. The large wood burning fireplace with an original beam from the old building serving nicely as a large mantel shelf above the fireplace. At the far end of the L-shaped room is an open plan kitchen with all the modern conveniences and graced with delicate patio doors that have access to the wrap round terrace – Perfect for breakfast and also absolutely ideal for taking evening meals, al fresco, whilst you enjoy the superb evening sunshine. The other outside area near the pool is spacious and inviting. Moving along the side of the villa is an open terrace that connects to the lovely private pool, which has ample room for sun loungers and seating room for at least 6 and is very secure and private.
The nearby medieval spa town of Caldas da Rainha has a few surprises such as the large Parque Dom Carlos, the old spa treatment centre, the bullfight arena and the amazing Praca Republica in the centre of town. Apart from all this, the town has all the amenities such as supermarkets, Mall, cinema complex, Internet hotspots, Library and plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes / bars.
