Portugal is a country of diverse landscapes, festivities, friendly people and a wealth of history. It is the westernmost country of Europe and has a population of 10.5 million people and is the nation with which Britain enjoys its oldest alliance dating back to the late 1300’s. A link between England and Portugal goes back to the recapture of Lisbon in 1147, but it becomes particularly strong in the late 14th century. It is formalized in May 1386 AD as the Treaty of Windsor. Binding in its terms, and never revoked, this treaty is the reason why Portugal is often described as England's oldest ally.Silver Coast
The Silver Coast stretches from just south of Porto till the northern parameter of the Lisbon coast is know as Costa da Prata or Silver Coast. This is to do with the shimmering quality of the Atlantic waters in the sunshine. Some of the country's most impressive architecture, historical and religious sites can be found in this region.
On the coastline, large and spectacular beaches mix with little quaint fishing towns and villages, of which Nazaré is one of the finest examples. Further inland, fertile country stretches along the banks of rivers like the Tagus, producing livestock and crops from grapes to fruit and rice.
Coimbra, the birthplace of six kings and the seat of the country's oldest university, fascinates with its historical associations, and nearby you can visit the largest escavated Roman site in Portugal, Conímbriga. The Silver Coast is still regarded as quite special for the average tourist or traveller because it offers a unique and enchanting view of an older more gentle country completely at ease with itself and the outside world. Visitors will feel a sense of ease and complete relaxation as the pace slackens and the mind takes in all that clean fresh air and fine weather. The great pilgrimage town of Fatima lies just 90 munites north of Lisbon and is within easy reach of a clutch of other world heritage sites like Tomar, Alcobaca and Batalha.
The surroundings are (Foz do Arelho) beautiful, the distance to the beach is very manageable, the small supermarket and a few bars are nearby. The owner is very friendly and he supplies you with plenty of suggestions about where to go. The swimming pool is not very big, but well suited to cool down and play with the kids.Freek V
We cannot recommend this villa highly enough, it was very well equipped and the location was perfect. My husband and son spent most of our two week stay playing pool in the games room which gave me plenty of time to relax in the sun by the beautiful infinity pool! We will definitely be booking to return in 2010.Steph from London
Eu e a minha familia tivemos umas ferias fabulosas nesta vivenda. Geraldine from France
We are a family of seven, and Casa da Lagoa fulfilled our dreams. The villa was clean and tidy. It was easy to find, and it was short distance to a lot of attractions, beaches and cities. One day in Lisbon was a must. The large pool, ping pong table in the basement, bikes and canoe were very popular among the children. When the kids were fine, we adults could totally relax. This was a dream. Everything was to our expectations. Ove M and family.Ove M from Norway
We enjoyed a lot our week in this house. There a lot of close place very nice to go to: Obidos, the ocean, Fatima, Lisbon. And when you just want to relax in the house, there is the swimming pool and a lot of games to entertain yourself. 1 week is definitely not enough to enjoy the region and the house.David from Lyon, France
This Villa was much nicer than we expected. The pool with relaxing area was perfect for our children. Playroom with all the games was nice surprise. Sure you need a car but all the nice places like Obidos Old Town, Peniche and beaches were near. Local people in this area are really friendly and always ready to help. This was first time we rent a house for our holidays in Europe and this experience encourages doing same in future.Jykä from Finland
We had a truly wonderful holiday down in Portugal last year that we would like to repeat someday. We are no strangers to that country, having visited the Central Portugal in 2011 and also the Algarve in 2009. Casa Liana was so large and comfortable for our family of 8 and I must say the pool was wonderful as well. Our teenagers, all three of them really like the beach at Foz do Arelho, but also had some action canoeing and on the lagoon which is between the house and the sea. We alternated our time between visits to the beach and visiting some of the nearby attractions. The castle of Tomar stands out for me – It took us a full day to appreciate its splendour and we will never forget the lovely meal we had in the picture perfect town below the castle. The house is in a lovely quiet location in a tiny village and so close to the amenities in Caldas da Rainha. We were able to visit the town for fresh groceries, bread and also some smart shops in the new shopping Mall called “Vivace”. If you have small kids, then head for the food court inside the mall for some excellent and inexpensive dining. Highly recommended - A beautiful house in a picture-perfect location.Batty L from Devon UK
If we had only one word to describe the villa it would be PERFECT! Even if the weather is not that good as it was for few days in our case there is everything you can possibly need to enjoy your holiday. We would love to recommend Villa Adriana to everyone.Viktor P. Villa Corus Benidoleig - Finland
The villa is really spacious and luxuriously furnished. The pool is big enough for proper swimming but unfortunately the weather was not great so it did not get as much use as it might have. However the pool table in the games room came into its own and a pool tournament instituted instead. There is so much to do in the area also so the weather doesn't matter. Obidos in the evening is a joy and we also went to Alcobaca where we enjoyed a lovely meal as well as the sights. We also went further afield to Santarem for the agricultural fair. The town is interesting and the wine tasting most enjoyable. All in all, it was a lovely family holiday.Tim from Cardiff
